Minos Systems UK is an organisation focused on
solutions dedicated to providing answers to real issues: carbon
reduction, lowering local authority energy bills and bringing new
technology to everyone in the UK. It offers exciting,
country-wide services using the existing streetlight
infrastructure:
- Streetlighting: standalone, wi-fi/radio or powerline
Streetlight dimming, remote control, switch off, remote
diagnosis
Minos Systems UK can provide exactly the type of streetlighting
solution required to work with the type of streetlights you have.
Our technology is innovative and exciting. We also understand how
to balance this level of performance with your budget, maximising
your existing streetlight stock.
- Electric vehicle battery charging via streetlight
infrastructure
The production of battery operated vehicles is set to dramatically
increase in 2012 as a result of spiralling fuel prices and a
variety of government incentives to encourage consumers to opt for
a greener method of travel.
Battery charging is an emerging issue for local authorities as
demand increases. A simple solution is to provide charging
points via existing streetlight technology. Minos Systems UK can
adapt existing streetlight stock with a simple, secure charging box
that can be accessed via a swipe or debit card system. Access is
quick and easy, allowing consumers to recharge their vehicles from
the national grid infrastructure. An additional benefit to the
local authority is the ability to charge for this service -
therefore providing a revenue stream as well as a valuable,
essential public service.
- Remote Broadband access via powerlines
Where Broadband cabling is an issue, we can connect via the
existing electricity infrastructure and send a Broadband
connection. In real terms, this means that if Broadband can't be
supplied to the more remote areas of the UK, for economic and
practical reasons, it can be accessed via existing powerlines. The
government's commitment to provide Broadband to all by 2020 will
only become a reality where innovative technology is considered a
viable option. With reasonable speeds of up to 80 MB, electricity
powered Broadband is an ideal alternative to the cabled
service.
Powered by the streetlight's energy, CCTV security can be
installed very quickly and monitored remotely in selected areas.
The cameras also work when the lights are switched off, maintaining
functionality both night and day. The units can be moved and
adjusted according to requirements. They also have an in-built
motion detector function. Images are sent on an Ethernet network
through a powerline communication with a 30 MHz frequency. They are
then converted to ADSL format for monitoring purposes via the
Internet.
Minos solutions excite clients at every level. The decision makers
are attracted to the huge savings in energy and the high-profile
environmental benefits. Engineers are drawn to the exciting
technology and its flexibility in working with old and new
streetlight ballasts. Financial minds are interested by potential
revenue streams and lower energy bills.
Minos currently works with many local authorities across the UK.
Minos Systems UK is currently the only compliant supplier able to
work with the Highways Agency to reduce its targeted 3900 tonnes of
carbon emissions by 50%. This is the largest project of its kind in
the UK, saving some 1800 tonnes every year.
